The Israelites would not
cross over into the promised land because of the giants. They did
not know God would fight for them and defeat the giants. All but two
men perished in the wilderness for what they did not know (Numbers
13:27-33).
Hearing that a nation has a nuclear bomb
does not give one the understanding of how to build it, arm it, or
defuse it.
Knowing God exists does not mean that one
knows God is God. The devils know God exists, but they do not know
(understand) that He is God. "Thou believest that there is one
God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble (James
2:19). What the devils do not know hurts them.
A difference becomes apparent between
having knowledge versus having understanding. When one has
understanding, the person's life reflects the understanding.
Therefore, the knowing or understanding helps the person.
"And
unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is
wisdom; and to depart
from evil is understanding (Job 28:28). Yes, what you do not know
will hurt you.
