Genesis 1:29
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the
which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for
meat.
Genesis 9:1-4
And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful,
and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the
dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every
fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all
the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every
moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green
herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof,
which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Genesis 18:5-8
And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts;
after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your
servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. And Abraham
hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly
three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the
hearth. And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and
good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. And
he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set
it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did
eat.
Leviticus 11:1-47
And the Lord spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them, Speak
unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye
shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. Whatsoever
parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among
the beasts, that shall ye eat. Nevertheless these shall ye not eat
of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the
camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he
is unclean unto you. And the coney, because he cheweth the cud,
but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. And the hare,
because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is
unclean unto you. And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be
clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. Of
their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch;
they are unclean to you. These shall ye eat of all that are in
the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the
seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. And all that have not
fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in
the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they
shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an
abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall
have their carcases in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor
scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you. And
these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls;
they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and
the ossifrage, and the ospray, And the vulture, and the kite after
his kind; Every raven after his kind; And the owl, and the night
hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, And the little
owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, And the swan, and the
pelican, and the gier eagle, And the stork, the heron after her
kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. All fowls that creep, going upon
all four, shall be an abomination unto you. Yet these may ye eat
of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which
have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; Even
these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald
locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the
grasshopper after his kind. But all other flying creeping things,
which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. And for
these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them
shall be unclean until the even. And whosoever beareth ought of
the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the
even. The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof, and
is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean unto you:
every one that toucheth them shall be unclean. And whatsoever goeth
upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four,
those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be
unclean until the even. And he that beareth the carcase of them
shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are
unclean unto you. These also shall be unclean unto you among the
creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the
mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, And the ferret, and the
chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. These are
unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when
they be dead, shall be unclean until the even. And upon whatsoever
any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean;
whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack,
whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be
put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall
be cleansed. And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them
falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break
it. Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water
cometh shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every
such vessel shall be unclean. And every thing whereupon any
part of their carcase falleth shall be unclean; whether it be
oven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they
are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you. Nevertheless a
fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean:
but that which toucheth their carcase shall be unclean. And if any
part of their carcase fall upon any sowing seed which is to be
sown, it shall be clean. But if any water be put upon the seed,
and any part of their carcase fall thereon, it shall be unclean
unto you. And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that
toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even. And he
that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be
unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall
wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. And every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it
shall not be eaten. Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever
goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all
creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat;
for they are an abomination. Ye shall not make yourselves
abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye
make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled
thereby. For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify
yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye
defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth. For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the
land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I
am holy. This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of
every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every
creature that creepeth upon the earth: To make a difference between
the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten
and the beast that may not be eaten.
Deuteronomy 8:16-18
Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew
not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do
thee good at thy latter end; And thou say in thine heart, My power
and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou
shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee
power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he
sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Deuteronomy 14:1-21
Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut
yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord
hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the
nations that are upon the earth. Thou shalt not eat any abominable
thing. These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep,
and the goat, The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and
the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois. And
every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two
claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat.
Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of
them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and
the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof;
therefore they are unclean unto you. And the swine, because it
divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto
you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.
These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have
fins and scales shall ye eat: And whatsoever hath not fins and
scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you. Of all clean
birds ye shall eat. But these are they of which ye shall not eat:
the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, And the glede, and the
kite, and the vulture after his kind, And every raven after his
kind, And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk
after his kind, The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan, And
the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant, And the stork,
and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. And
every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall
not be eaten. But of all clean fowls ye may eat. Ye shall not eat
of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the
stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest
sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the Lord
thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
Deuteronomy 32:13-14
He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat
the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the
rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; Butter of kine, and milk of
sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and
goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the
pure blood of the grape.
Ruth 2:14
And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the
bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the
reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was
sufficed, and left.
1 Samuel 17:17-18
And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an
ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the
camp to thy brethren; And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain
of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their
pledge.
1 Samuel 25:18
Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two
bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of
parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred
cakes of figs, and laid them on asses.
1 Samuel 30:11-12
And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David,
and gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of
raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he
had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three
nights.
2 Samuel 6:18-19
And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and
peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of
hosts. And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole
multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a
cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine.
So all the people departed every one to his house.
2 Samuel 16:1-2
And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba
the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled,
and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches
of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.
And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba
said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the
bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that
such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.
2 Samuel 17:27-29
And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the
son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son
of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and
barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and
parched pulse, And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of
kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat:
for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in
the wilderness.
1 Kings 18:4
For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, that
Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave,
and fed them with bread and water.)
Psalms 104:14-15
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the
service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; And
wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his
face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
Proverbs 27:27
And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food
of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
Daniel 1:6-16
Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah: Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave
names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to
Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah,
of Abednego. But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not
defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the
wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the
eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel
into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. And the
prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who
hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your
faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then
shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. Then said Daniel to
Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah, Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days;
and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Then let our
countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the
children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou
seest, deal with thy servants. So he consented to them in this
matter, and proved them ten days. And at the end of ten days their
countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the
children which did eat the portion of the king's meat. Thus Melzar
took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should
drink; and gave them pulse.
Daniel 5:18-21
O thou king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a
kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour: And for the majesty
that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and
feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept
alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.
But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he
was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from
him: And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made
like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they
fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of
heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of
men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
Matthew 3:1-4
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of
Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The
voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the
Lord, make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of
camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat
was locusts and wild honey.
Acts 10:12-15
Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild
beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a
voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. But Peter said, Not so,
Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common.
Romans 14:2-3
For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak,
eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not;
and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath
received him.
Romans 14:6
He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that
regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that
eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that
eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
Romans 14:17-23
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and
peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things
serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. Let us
therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things
wherewith one may edify another. For meat destroy not the work of
God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who
eateth with offence. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink
wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended,
or is made weak. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God.
Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he
alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he
eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
1 Corinthians 10:25-31
Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question
for conscience sake: For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness
thereof. If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and
ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no
question for conscience sake. But if any man say unto you, This is
offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed
it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the
fulness thereof: Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other:
for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? For if I
by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I
give thanks? Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye
do, do all to the glory of God.
