Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy
sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth
children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule
over thee.
Exodous 21:7-11
And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she
shall not go out as the menservants do. If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself,
then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation
he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her. And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her
after the manner of daughters. If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty
of marriage, shall he not diminish. And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free
without money.
Deuteronomy 24:1
When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and
it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath
found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
Ecclesiastes 9:9
Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all
the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under
the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this
life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Isaiah 54:5
For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his
name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole
earth shall he be called.
Jeremiah 3:14
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am
married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a
family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Hosea 2:19
And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will
betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in
lovingkindness, and in mercies.
Malachi 2:14-17
Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been
witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou
hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of
thy covenant. And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit.
And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take
heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the
wife of his youth. For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting
away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of
hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not
treacherously. Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein
have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good
in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is
the God of judgment?
Matthew 5:31-32
It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife,
let him give her a writing of divorcement: But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife,
saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery:
and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Matthew 9:15
And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the
bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the
days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and
then shall they fast.
Matthew 19:3-9
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and
saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for
every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he
which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and
shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore
God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of
divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts
suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was
not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it
be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery:
and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Mark 10:1-11
And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of
Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him
again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a
man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and
to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your
heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and
female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and
cleave
to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain,
but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same
matter. And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and
marry another, committeth adultery against her.
Luke 16:8
And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had
done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation
wiser than the children of light.
Luke 16:18
Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another,
committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away
from her husband committeth adultery.
Romans 7:1-3
Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the
law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her
husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is
loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another
man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead,
she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she
be married to another man.
1 Corinthians 5:1-7
It is reported commonly that there is fornication
among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the
Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that
hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have
judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath
so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered
together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the
flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven
leaveneth the whole lump? Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as
ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for
us:
1 Corinthians 5:9-13
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with
fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with
the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye
needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man
that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an
idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such
an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not
ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from
among yourselves that wicked person.
1 Corinthians 7:2
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man
have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
1 Corinthians 7:4-5
The wife hath not power of her own body, but the
husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own
body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a
time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come
together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
1 Corinthians 7:8-17
I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is
good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to
marry than to burn. And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not
the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled
to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife
that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him
not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he
be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the
unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your
children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a
sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to
peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy
husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy
wife? But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called
every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
1 Corinthians 7:20-24
Let every man abide in the same calling wherein
he was called. Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou
mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's
freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's
servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with
God.
1 Corinthians 7:27-29
Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be
loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin
marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in
the flesh: but I spare you. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that
both they that have wives be as though they had none;
1 Corinthians 7:36
But if any man think that he behaveth himself
uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and
need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them
marry.
1 Corinthians 7:39
The wife is bound by the law as long as her
husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be
married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Be ye not unequally yoked together with
unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he
that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are
the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in
them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be
my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the
Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and
daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
2 Corinthians 11:2
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy:
for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a
chaste virgin to Christ.
Galatians 5:17-21
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the
Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the
other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;
Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,
strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the
which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that
they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:22-27
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as
unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the
head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives
be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church,
and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water
by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having
spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and
without blemish.
Colossians 3:18-19
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as
it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Titus 2:4-5
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love
their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their
own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled:
but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
1 Peter 3:1-10
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own
husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the
word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the
hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is
in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who
trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their
own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye
are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge,
giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being
heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not
hindered. Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another,
love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but
contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye
should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain
his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
Revelation 2:19-23
I know thy works, and charity, and service, and
faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than
the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou
sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to
teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat
things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she
repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery
with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches
shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I
will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Revelation 19:7-9
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him:
for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself
ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen,
clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called
unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These
are the true sayings of God.
